AAFCS Examinations Used for Texas FCS Teacher Certification


The American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) is proud to provide testing services to the State of Texas to validate the content area knowledge and skills of candidates pursuing one of the state’s Family and Consumer Sciences teacher certifications/licenses.

      RETAKE INFORMATION FOR TEXAS CANDIDATES (Per Texas Education Agency Policy)

      You are limited to five attempts to take a certification test. The five attempts include the first attempt to pass the examination and four retakes. All attempts taken before September 1, 2015 count as one attempt. If you choose to register again for the same test after completion of the fifth testing attempt, your scores will not be counted towards certification and you will assume responsibility for test fees paid.



      The date for retaking a certification exam cannot be less than 45 days following the most recent date of test administration.  Scores from exam administrations not meeting this 45-day interval rule will not be counted toward obtaining Texas teacher certification, and you will assume responsibility for test fees paid.  It is possible to REGISTER for an exam retake less than 45 days following a previous administration provided you assure that the date you select for exam ADMINISTRATION meets the 45-day interval rule.

      Testing/Scoring Process for Texas Teacher Certification/Licensure

    • Once the candidate completes the computer-based exam, the candidate should receive notification of pass/fail status at the testing site or center. The scores will then be processed and available in the ISO Quality Testing database within 48-72 hours of testing. Official test scores will be sent to TEA from ISO Quality Testing/SMT after the scores are posted in the ISO Quality Testing database. Please allow 14 business days for the scores to appear in your TEA online account. NOTE: If your scores do not appear within that timeframe, please contact TEA to ensure and confirm that they did receive the scores from ISO Quality Testing. If TEA indicates that the scores were not received, please make a request in writing (via email to to have the scores be resent. In the written request, please identify your name and date of testing.
    • When the scores appear in your TEA online account and shows you have passed, please select applications and follow those instructions to complete your application for Texas teacher certification.
    • Within 14 business days following your testing date, the candidate will receive official scoring notification via email from AAFCS. If a passing score is achieved, candidates will also receive information about applying for the AAFCS National Professional Credentials, which is a completely separate certification process from Texas Teacher Certification.
