American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS)

Affiliate Resources

2012-13 Program year (July 1, 2012 - June 30, 2013)

This page will be updated monthly, and linked in issues of The MINT and email communications from the Director of Affiliates, Jane Walker, and AAFCS staff. This is not a replacement for the AAFCS Leadership Exchange, hosted on the AAFCS Communities site, which is still the best place for affiliates to share their own ideas, presentations, etc. Rather, this page will serve as the page where AAFCS staff and national leadership will share updates, tools, and deadlines important for affiliate governance and leadership.

The American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) is recognized as the driving force in bringing people together to improve the lives of individuals, families, and communities. The mission of the AAFCS is to provide leadership and support for professionals whose work assists individuals, families, and communities in making informed decisions about their well being, relationships, and resources to achieve optimal quality of life.

This tool kit was designed to provide affiliate leaders with the tools needed to advance the mission of AAFCS within their state. Check for updates often!

Upcoming Dates (Be sure to check the AAFCS Calendar of Events frequently for other AAFCS deadlines)

To Do List: Recommendations for Affiliate Implementation

Consider this "to do" list as a template for state affiliate involvement. The activities listed below represent approximately 12 months of activity led by the state affiliate.

Engage: Create a dynamic affiliate Leadership Team. Try to incorporate members from each category - Stduent, Active, Associate, Lifetime, and Emeritus.

Prepare: Have all members of the Leadership Team review the AAFCS website and read email communications, like The FACS, Fast FACS, and The MINT.

Discuss: Convene meetings of the Leadership Team on a periodic basis to make sure everyone is comfortable in their role and progress.

Promote: Promote statewide completion of Affiliate action plan. Share your action plan with your membership! Make is an affiliate-wide plan, and each member can feel good about the results.

Expand: Plan and conduct a forum at an upcoming state affiliate conference with professionals you would like to see become members/advocates of AAFCS and FCS in your state.
