2012 Distinguished Service Award

Rosa Purcell, CFCS "Always Working to Make the Community Better"

Dr. Rosa S. Purcell has been a dynamic and motivational leader in family and consumer sciences locally and nationally. Her career has spanned the public schools to higher education, as she's served as a public school teacher, administrator and professor. She has received grants and contracts which met the needs of public school teachers, individuals with disabilities and various communities. Her commitment to excellence is also exemplified in the attainment of licensure as a North Carolina Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher, Teacher Birth-Kindergarten, and as a Certified Family and Consumer Scientist.

In service to the profession and communities locally and nationally, Dr. Purcell has been actively engaged with organizations and Boards as a member, and as an elected and appointed officer. She has been involved with both the AAFCS Council of Certification and Accreditation, the Awards and Recognition Committee, and the Ethics Committee. In recognition of her leadership, she is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including Outstanding Home Economics Educator, Ohio State University.
