Putting Research Into Practice

Submissions are now closed--we hope to see you at Putting Research Into Practice in Indianapolis!

All Annual Conference participants (members and nonmembers) were invited to submit an application to present at the 2012 AAFCS Putting Research into Practice session (formerly Research to Practice Rounds), tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, June 26 from 1:45-4:30pm. This event, held for the first time at the 2006 Annual Conference, was modeled after the traditional ESAE (Elementary, Secondary and Adult Education) Table Topics and the ACTE (Association for Career and Technical Education) Grand Carousel.  If you are an affiliate president or AAFCS Community chair, please share this invitation with the members of your unit.

Maximize the Moment! During Putting Research into Practice, conference participants will acquire a variety of information quickly through roundtable sessions. Table-top presentations of current research, award-winning teaching methods, career mentoring, and entrepreneurial ideas and experience done at quick-speed rates allow participants to attend multiple sessions and obtain materials/information about many topics of interest at the end of the event.

Accepted proposals will present one or more 20-25 minute (or longer) sessions during the program.  You will also have the opportunity to visit other roundtable sessions when you are not presenting. We ask that presenters provide 175 or more copies of a handout, CD, or any other materials to distribute to those who attend your session, and to share at the end of the session.

Important Points:

  • Your presentation must be adapted for roundtable discussion.  There will be seating for 8 to 10 people at a time.  Others who are interested will stand around your table or pull up any extra chairs.
  • No audiovisual or projection equipment is allowed.  You may use your laptop computer screen for display if it can run on battery power, but no electrical outlets will be available.
  • Each display must be able to be set up/taken down in about 3 minutes since tables will be shared mid-program with other presenters.
  • You will be informed of your acceptance to this event during the first two weeks of March.
