Megan Pritchett Named
AAFCS Student Unit Chair
(Alexandria, Va. - June 27, 2008) — Megan Lynn Pritchett, graduate student in workforce education at the University of Georgia (UGA) and family and consumer sciences teacher at Bainbridge High School, was named chair of the Student Unit of the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) at the recent AAFCS 99th Annual Conference & Expo in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In a formal installation ceremony, Pritchett and other AAFCS officers for the fiscal year 2008-2009 were officially sworn in by Past President Bonnie Braun, CFCS, before an audience of nearly 900 members and other conference participants.
“I am very excited and honored to serve the student members of AAFCS during this centennial year. It is my hope that together, with the other Student Unit officers, we can contribute a great deal to AAFCS through the ‘Second Century of Helping’ community service project. I want the students to learn and embrace the traditions and history of family and consumer sciences while bridging towards a strong and innovative future for family and consumer sciences and AAFCS,” said Pritchett.
Prior to becoming the AAFCS Student Unit (SU) chair, Pritchett was SU chair-elect and member of the AAFCS Membership Committee. She is also a Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) adviser at Bainbridge High School, member of the National FCCLA Alumni and Associates, adviser representative on the Georgia FCCLA Board of Directors, and member of First United Methodist Church in Moultrie, Georgia.
Pritchett is scheduled to receive a master’s degree from UGA in August 2009. She earned a bachelor’s degree in family and consumer sciences education from UGA in 2007.
