Kristin Warner Named AAFCS
Student Unit Chair

(Alexandria, Va. - June 26, 2007) — Kristin L. Warner, graduate student in leadership education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) and graduate assistant for the UNL Extension program, was named chair of the Student Unit of the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) at the recent AAFCS 98th Annual Conference & Expo in Reno, Nevada. In a formal installation ceremony, Warner and other AAFCS officers for the fiscal year 2007-2008 were officially sworn in by Past President Don Bower, CFCS, before an audience of nearly 900 members and other conference participants.

“My involvement in AAFCS has provided me with the opportunities to connect with family and consumer sciences professionals nationwide, develop my leadership skills, stay current with trends in the field, and become actively engaged in issues relating to family and consumer sciences,” said Warner.

Prior to serving as AAFCS Student Unit (SU) chair, Warner held the positions of SU chair-elect and member of the AAFCS Membership Committee. In addition to serving as SU chair and liaison to the AAFCS board of directors, she is currently the SU chair and treasurer for the Nebraska Association of Family & Consumer Sciences. Warner’s other leadership positions include president of the Love Memorial Hall Cooperative Residence Hall for Women, student ambassador for the UNL College of Education and Human Sciences, and student advisory board member of the UNL College of Education and Human Sciences.

At UNL, Warner is completing her master’s thesis on issues relating to service ability and delivery of youth workforce development services. She is scheduled to graduate in August 2007. As a graduate assistant in the University’s Extension program, she has designed, implemented, and evaluated statewide educational programs for 4-H youth, coordinated on-campus camps for school youth, written lesson plans, and developed a supplemental CD/DVD for the Family Treasures curriculum marketed to families and Extension Educators nationwide.
