Kristin Warner Named AAFCS
Student Unit Chair
(Alexandria, Va. - June 26, 2007) — Kristin L. Warner,
graduate student in leadership education at the University
of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) and graduate assistant for
the UNL Extension program, was named chair of the
Student Unit of the American Association of Family
& Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) at the recent AAFCS
98th Annual Conference & Expo in Reno, Nevada.
In a formal installation ceremony, Warner and other
AAFCS officers for the fiscal year 2007-2008 were
officially sworn in by Past President Don Bower, CFCS,
before an audience of nearly 900 members and other
conference participants.
“My involvement in AAFCS
has provided me with the opportunities to connect
with family and consumer sciences professionals nationwide,
develop my leadership skills, stay current with trends
in the field, and become actively engaged in issues
relating to family and consumer sciences,” said Warner.
Prior to serving as AAFCS
Student Unit (SU) chair, Warner held the positions
of SU chair-elect and member of the AAFCS Membership
Committee. In addition to serving as SU chair and
liaison to the AAFCS board of directors, she is currently
the SU chair and treasurer for the Nebraska Association
of Family & Consumer Sciences. At the AAFCS Annual
Conference last month, she was recognized for her
outstanding character, academic achievements, and
service to the Student Unit with the Student of the
Year award.
Warner’s other leadership
positions include president of the Love Memorial Hall
Cooperative Residence Hall for Women, student ambassador
for the UNL College of Education and Human Sciences,
and student advisory board member of the UNL College
of Education and Human Sciences.
At UNL, Warner is completing
her master’s thesis on issues relating to service
ability and delivery of youth workforce development
services. She is scheduled to graduate in August 2007.
As a graduate assistant in the University’s Extension
program, she has designed, implemented, and evaluated
statewide educational programs for 4-H youth, coordinated
on-campus camps for school youth, written lesson plans,
and developed a supplemental CD/DVD for the Family
Treasures curriculum marketed to families and
Extension Educators nationwide.
