Sue Buck Named Director-at-Large of
American Association of
Family & Consumer Sciences
(Alexandria, Va. - June 30, 2007) — Sue Buck, CFCS,
EdD, Central District director, University of Wisconsin—Extension,
was named director-at-large of the American Association
of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) at the recent
AAFCS 98th Annual Conference & Expo in Reno, Nevada.
In a formal installation ceremony, Buck and other
AAFCS officers for the fiscal year 2007-2008 were
officially sworn in by Past President Don Bower, CFCS,
before an audience of nearly 900 members and other
conference participants.
“I am looking forward to serving the members of AAFCS
as we move into the second century of our profession,”
said Buck. “This is an exciting time for us with the
observance of the Centennial of our organization,
which develops family and consumer sciences professionals
who improve the lives of individuals, families, and
communities. It is time to celebrate our past, recognize
the work of our present, and strengthen our future
for both our profession and our organization.”
With 30 years of outstanding contributions to AAFCS
and Cooperative Extension, Buck can draw on her extensive
experience in her new role as AAFCS director-at-large.
As an AAFCS member, she served as president of the
Illinois Affiliate, member of the AAFCS Board of Directors,
chair of the Extension Section, and chair of the AAFCS
Council for Accreditation. Before becoming Central
District director with the University of Wisconsin—Extension,
Buck held positions as family and consumer sciences
educator and county department head in Henry County,
Illinois, and Southeast District family and consumer
sciences program specialist in Oklahoma.
Many groups have recognized Buck for her professional
achievements. Her honors include receiving the AAFCS
Leaders Award, AAFCS Distinguished Service Award,
NEAFCS Award for Diversity and Distinguished Service
Award, and the Award of Merit from the University
of Illinois School of Human Resources and Family Studies/College
of Agriculture.
Buck earned a bachelor’s degree in family and consumer
sciences and journalism, a master’s degree from the
University of Illinois, and a doctoral degree in adult
and continuing education from Northern Illinois University.

Unit chair; Dixie R. Crase, CFCS, past president;
and Carolyn W. Jackson, ex-officio, executive director.
