Sue Buck Named Director-at-Large of
American Association of
Family & Consumer Sciences

(Alexandria, Va. - June 30, 2007) — Sue Buck, CFCS, EdD, Central District director, University of Wisconsin—Extension, was named director-at-large of the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) at the recent AAFCS 98th Annual Conference & Expo in Reno, Nevada. In a formal installation ceremony, Buck and other AAFCS officers for the fiscal year 2007-2008 were officially sworn in by Past President Don Bower, CFCS, before an audience of nearly 900 members and other conference participants.

“I am looking forward to serving the members of AAFCS as we move into the second century of our profession,” said Buck. “This is an exciting time for us with the observance of the Centennial of our organization, which develops family and consumer sciences professionals who improve the lives of individuals, families, and communities. It is time to celebrate our past, recognize the work of our present, and strengthen our future for both our profession and our organization.”

With 30 years of outstanding contributions to AAFCS and Cooperative Extension, Buck can draw on her extensive experience in her new role as AAFCS director-at-large. As an AAFCS member, she served as president of the Illinois Affiliate, member of the AAFCS Board of Directors, chair of the Extension Section, and chair of the AAFCS Council for Accreditation. Before becoming Central District director with the University of Wisconsin—Extension, Buck held positions as family and consumer sciences educator and county department head in Henry County, Illinois, and Southeast District family and consumer sciences program specialist in Oklahoma.

Many groups have recognized Buck for her professional achievements. Her honors include receiving the AAFCS Leaders Award, AAFCS Distinguished Service Award, NEAFCS Award for Diversity and Distinguished Service Award, and the Award of Merit from the University of Illinois School of Human Resources and Family Studies/College of Agriculture.

Buck earned a bachelor’s degree in family and consumer sciences and journalism, a master’s degree from the University of Illinois, and a doctoral degree in adult and continuing education from Northern Illinois University.
