Peggy Wild Named Director of Affiliates
of the American Association of
Family & Consumer Sciences

(Alexandria, Va. - July 30, 2009) — Peggy Wild, Ph.D., CFCS, state specialist, family and consumer sciences education, Indiana Department of Education, Office of Career and Technical Education, was named director of affiliates of the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) at the recent AAFCS 100th Annual Conference & Expo in Knoxville, Tennessee. In a formal installation ceremony, Wild and other AAFCS officers for the fiscal year 2009-2010 were officially sworn in by Past President Bonnie Braun, CFCS, during the AAFCS Senate.

“The affiliates are the heart and soul of the organization, and it is an honor and privilege to represent them on the national board of directors,” said Wild. “As the association and profession continue to transform to meet the needs of individuals, families, and communities in the second century, our affiliates will have an important role to play.”

A strong advocate for family and consumer sciences education, Wild has been an active, long-time member of AAFCS, as well as the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE), Association of Teacher Educators, Family and Consumer Sciences Education Association, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, and National Association of State Administrators of Family and Consumer Sciences. At AAFCS, Wild has served as treasurer, secretary of the former Elementary, Secondary, and Adult Education Section, and chair of the Council for Certification; worked on numerous committees, including the Teacher Education Yearbook Committee; and held other leadership positions to help advance the family and consumer sciences profession and the work of the Association.

To recognize Wild’s outstanding achievements and contributions, many organizations have honored her with awards. She received the Outstanding Career and Technical Educator Award from the Indiana ACTE in 2006 and Region Three ACTE in 2007. Purdue University awarded Wild with an honorary Doctor of Letters and the Family and Consumer Sciences Education Association named her National Educator of the Year in 2005. She has also received the Leaders Award and Distinguished Service Award from AAFCS.
