Larissa Staley Named Student Unit Chair
of the
American Association of
Family & Consumer Sciences
(Alexandria, Va. - August 17, 2009) — Larissa Staley, consumer and family sciences education major and organizational, leadership, and supervision minor at Purdue University, was named Student Unit chair of the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) at the recent AAFCS 100th Annual Conference & Expo in Knoxville, Tennessee. In a formal installation ceremony, Staley and other AAFCS officers for the fiscal year 2009-2010 were officially sworn in by Past President Bonnie Braun, CFCS, during the AAFCS Senate.
“I am grateful to have such a wonderful opportunity to be more involved with a great organization, especially during its 100-year celebration,” said Staley.
An active member of AAFCS and Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), Staley has served in numerous leadership positions and participated in activities to advance her leadership skills. Within AAFCS, Staley has served as Student Unit chair-elect and Public Policy Committee member. For her state affiliate, she has been a state parliamentarian, national officer liaison, secretary, and scholarship award winner. At FCCLA, Staley’s roles have included Indiana STAR Events assistant lead and lead coordinator and Indiana FCCLA honorary member. She recently attended the 2009 Leadership Honor’s Boot Camp in Washington, DC, and is the ambassador for the Purdue University College of Consumer and Family Sciences.
Staley is expected to graduate from Purdue University in May 2010 and will pursue a family and consumer sciences teaching position at the secondary school level.
