STORY IDEAS

The 98th Annual Conference & Expo, sponsored by the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences, will take place at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada, June 21- 24, 2007.

America’s Cultural Kaleidoscope: Challenges and Opportunities, the conference theme, will cover a variety of topics, such as multicultural education, diversity, personal finance, health and wellness, human development, food and nutrition, and other areas of family and consumer sciences (FCS). This story might be of interest to your audience as a general interest piece.

For media interested in K-12 or education issues, AAFCS will be honoring its 2007 Teachers of the Year during the Opening General Session. The AAFCS 2007 National Teacher of the Year, Kendra K. Naef, CFCS, will be available for interviews.

FCS teachers include these life skills topics in their classes:

In local youth and human interest news, Theresa Glasheen, vice chair of outreach and service for the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) Student Unit (SU), and the other SU national officers are teaming up with the United Way of Reno to lead a national service project entitled, “One Fish…Two Fish…Your Book, A Child’s Wish,” to benefit Reno elementary schools.
