Cornell University Library
The Cornell collections are open to the public — to
students, faculty, visiting researchers, and members of the
community. The Cornell Online catalog may be searched remotely
via the Internet at http://catalog.library.cornell.edu/.
A very rich resource available to anyone with a computer
and internet connection is the Cornell HEARTH website: http://hearth.library.cornell.edu/.
This site is a core electronic collection of books and journals
in Home Economics and related disciplines beginning in 1850.
The titles and full text of these materials are available,
as well as, bibliographies and essays on the wide array of
subjects relating to Home Economics. This site offers the Journal
of Home Economics / Journal of American Family and
Consumer Sciences from 1909-1980 online. This information
is free and directly accessible from your home computer.
The Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections can be found
at http://rmc.library.cornell.edu/.
A special series of Cornell research is titled From Domesticity
to Modernity: What Was Home Economics? This site offers
many biographies of early leaders in home economics and historical
events and information.
Cornell’s interlibrary services are for currently
employed faculty and staff, and currently registered students.
If you are an individual registered or affiliated with another
academic institution, please use your institution’s
interlibrary services. They can request items from Cornell
on your behalf. If you are not affiliated with an academic
institution or business, please contact your local public
library. Most offer options for obtaining resources from
other libraries and institutions.
Out of town visitors and researchers are welcome. You may
wish to confirm the library hours before your visit by calling
607.255.3530. A day’s advance notice is needed to retrieve
those collections housed off-site in the Library Annex and
you may request specific items in advance to ensure their
availability for your use.
