Know Before You Go

Thank you for registering for the AAFCS 109th Annual Conference & Expo, Cultivating Social and Emotional Competence for Healthy Relationships!  Before you pack your bags for Atlanta, we wanted to provide you with information that will help you with your planning and be prepared to have a great time!

Travel Logistics 

  • Ground Transportation

    • The Greater Atlanta Airport Shuttle is offering great rates to and from the airport--10% off! Make sure to enter AAFCS with your name when you book online. You may also book by phone at 678-851-7063—be sure to mention AAFCS!
    • Rent a car and explore the Atlanta area before or after conference! Hertz is offering great rates to #AAFCSac attendees--click here to learn more!
    • The easiest way to get to the Marriott Marquis is via Atlanta’s public transportation system, MARTA. MARTA is located within the airport—just follow the signs to the station, where you can purchase a ticket at a machine or from a teller for just a few dollars! (credit card or cash accepted) You can take the gold or red lines to the Peachtree Center stop—this is connected to the hotel! Once you leave the station, you can walk a few blocks to the hotel outside OR head into the food court next to the top of the escalator and follow the signs to the Atlanta Marriott Marquis! Click here for a guide on how to ride MARTA!
    • Driving in? AAFCS conference attendees receive a 20% discount on valet parking at the hotel. Self-parking is not discounted. If you’re staying at the hotel, the discount will be automatically applied to your bill; if not, please stop by the registration desk for information as to how to receive the discount.

  • Atlanta Marriott Marquis (conference hotel) – 265 Peachtree Center Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30303 
  • Registration – The AAFCS Registration desk is located in the Atrium Foyer.  Operating hours are: 
    • Saturday, June 23 -  5:00pm – 7:00pm
    • Sunday, June 24 - 8:00am – 4:30pm
    • Monday, June 25 - 7:00am – 4:00pm
    • Tuesday, June 26 - 7:00am – 11:00am and 1:30pm – 4:30pm
    • Wednesday, June 27 - 8:00am – 10:00am
  • Conference App – Our conference app allows you to see all program details, create a personalized agenda, receive alerts, connect with attendees and presenters, download session materials, and find your way to sessions.  Have fun by taking on challenges in the scavenger hunt section and earn a chance to win prizes! The app is web-based so you do not have to download it—just go to and bookmark it! If you’ve not used this app before, check out this flyer with instructions!
  • Program Book – You will receive a hard copy of the program book at the conference, and you may also download the PDF prior to the conference at URL.  The program book does NOT have descriptions of sessions—so make sure to bookmark the app or the website!
  • BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag) – While we will be providing a small bag to hold your registration materials, we invite you to bring your favorite tote bag to hold additional items.
  • Dress Code – For most conference events, business casual or business attire is suggested. At the “Relax, Refresh & Relate” Welcome Reception, we encourage you to wear resort casual or activewear if you would like to participate in Tai Chi! If you are attending the NCBDFCS Banquet or Awards Dinner: Celebrating the STARS of AAFCS, semi-formal attire is recommended. We suggest wearing comfortable shoes and bringing a cardigan or shawl, as hotel temperatures can vary!
  • Ticketed Events  If tickets were included in your packet for an event, please bring them with you to that event. For meal functions that were included with your registration, your badge is all that is needed. Also, if you requested a special meal on your registration form, please bring the brightly colored ticket that indicates you should receive a special meal. Please check your packet for more information about the new meal ticket policy, and—if you’ve purchased an excursion ticket—information about excursions.
  • Wireless Internet – All conference registrants will have access to wireless internet in the Atlanta Marriott meeting space! Use network AAFCS and password AAFCSac2018.
  • Social Media – Whether on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram, use hashtag #AAFCSac so all conference attendees can follow the action! Please note: You must make your Facebook posts public in order for AAFCS and attendees who are not your friends to see them.
  • Look for the heart! AAFCS staff and board members will all be wearing a small purple heart on our badges or clothing—have a question? Ask us! We’re here to help.

Community Service Project

  • Help support the Student Service Project to benefit Habitat for Humanity: Collage for a Cause.  At the Expo Egg-stravaganza on Tuesday, donate what you can to help paint a house for a family in need!

“Twice Is Nice” Accessory Swap

  • Time to purge your stuff to weed out accessories, such as jewelry, hats, scarves, purses, etc., and bring them to the swap for a chance to go home with new-to-you “bling.” Bring your items to the Opening General Session on Monday and come “shop” during the “Showcase Your Work” in the Expo the next day! 

Community of ESAE Silent Auction

If you’ve agreed to donate a basket to the Silent Auction, bring that to the Opening General Session to drop off with the community.

Professional Testing and Certification Available at Conference

The AAFCS professional certification exams are offered at the conference on Tuesday afternoon. On-site registration for the exam is $115. If you are interested in registering for the exam administration (FCS Composite, HDFS, HNFS, PFFE, or NWE), please contact for more information.
