6.1 Farm to School in the Culinary Classroom

Explore a new website featuring culinary curriculum rooted in the soil and in the sea. When young people don't understand how food is grown, it is difficult for them to make food choices that support their health, community health, and environmental health. The Yellow Farmhouse Education Center has developed a comprehensive website where FCS teachers can access activities, lesson plans, resources, and recipes specifically developed to help students make the connection between farm and food.

6.2 Helping Youth Achieve Financial Well-Being

Achieving financial well-being as an adult is about more than how much money you make or whether you're able to do your taxes, balance your checkbook, or pay your bills. It's about having control over your money and being able to make choices that allow you to enjoy life. In this session, discover educator and family resources that support inclusion and equity while reflecting a diversity of students as they build youth financial capability skills and develop adult financial well-being.

This session will also share how these students engaged with guest speakers from FCS education-related fields (e.g., extension, prison education, etc.), as well as how local industry partners and FCS educators mentored students in developing their micro-teaching lessons.

6.6 AAFCS Accreditation:  Preparing an Accreditation Self-Study Report - Standard 2B

Higher education Units seeking AAFCS accreditation are required to complete a Self-Study Report addressing four standards for accreditation. Standard 2 addresses the instructional programs in the Unit and the degree to which these programs are connected to the Family and Consumer Sciences Body of Knowledge. Part A of this standard explored each of the components of the FCS Body of Knowledge as well as the accompanying assessment requirements. Part B explores the requirement of a culminating experience for each student as well as the accompanying oversight and assessment requirements.
