IFHE-US FREE Webinar: CIVIC ENGAGEMENT FOR FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE(FCS) PROFESSIONALS

When:  Nov 6, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 01:00 PM (CT)

We are engaged in a crisis of public confidence in our government as well as other governing institutions. Daily we experience the dysfunction nationally, statewide, as well as locally. The disconnect between people and their leaders seems to widen regardless of the issue. Confidence and trust in our democratic institutions has eroded and is at an all-time low.

Lincoln’s idea of a government of the people, by the people, and for the people seems to have lost its luster. However, each of us has a role in helping to restore faith in our democracy. AAFCS has a rich history of being involved in civic engagement and has contributed to many of the issues focused on families and communities. As Family and Consumer Science professionals, we continue to have a role in shaping policy and regulations.

We are all individual citizens with rights and moral power that needs to be exercised. Rather than “buy” policies and regs, we can engage and help to shape as well as assess. Much of civic engagement begins locally in each and every one of our communities and collectively create responses to needs.

Through the years, our speaker, Dr. Carol Anderson, has been heavily engaged locally as well as nationally and identified lessons to share from these experiences as well as highlighting some of the research and practice that contributes to engagement that results in action. There are resources including some from AAFCS that offer options for consideration and action. This event will address the IFHE theme, Building Resilient Homes and Families.
