Professional Development and Scholarship

Dr. Agatha Hupenbecker Burnet Undergraduate Professional Leadership Scholarship

This Professional Leadership Scholarship is awarded in honor of Dr. Agatha Huepenbecker Burnet, who served as President of AHEA (AAFCS) in 1986-87. Interest from an endowment fund set up in her name will be awarded to a student or students to help defray expenses to attend the AAFCS Annual Conference.

IAFCS Graduate Scholarship

The AAFCS-Iowa Graduate Scholarship is intended to support professionals with the potential to strengthen the field of Family and Consumer Sciences in either the broad field of study (FCS holistically) or one of the subdisciplines listed. This scholarship is available to anyone who has been an AAFCS-Iowa member for at least two years. Preference is given to candidates enrolled or planning to enroll in a program within a College of Family and Consumer Sciences, Human Ecology, Human Sciences, or other FCS-focused college.

Member Recognition

Teacher of the Year

This award was established to provide recognition for innovative, creative programming and teaching methods in family and consumer sciences and for effectiveness in stimulating student motivation plus personal growth.

(If the award winner meets the AAFCS guidelines, they will be eligible to apply for the AAFCS Teacher of the Year award).

New Achiever

This award was established to identify and honor emerging members with potential for achieving significant accomplishments in, and through, family and consumer sciences.

Distinguished Service

This award was established in 1983 to provide recognition for professional excellence and achievement in family and consumer sciences with outstanding service to AAFCS-Iowa Affiliate.

Hall of Fame

Recognize the lifelong contributions of a retired or deceased family and consumer scientist to the profession and association.

University Student Award

This award is for a junior or senior student member of Iowa Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, who has demonstrated qualities of leadership, contributions, and achievements in the Family and Consumer Sciences program, leading to a degree and employment in a FCS career.

Public Service Award

This award was established to provide recognition for a non-family and consumer scientist who has provided significant contributions towards furthering the AAFCS-Iowa Affiliate program and improving family life in Iowa.

Research

Elva Davies Adult Research Award

This award was established to provide recognition for important contributions to the information base of family and consumer sciences. The recipient shall be an Iowa Association of Family and Consumer Sciences member in good standing for 5 consecutive years prior to nomination. The Elva Davies Fund will solicit proposals annually from members desiring financial support for proposed enrichment programs related to family and consumer sciences.

Student Research Award

This award recognizes contributions, made by a college student member, in research that adds to the information base for family and consumer sciences.
