History

The Maryland Home Economics Association was founded in 1917 to educate the public on the value of home economics. The organization is now known as the Maryland Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. Activities sponsored by the association include courses in home economics and radio shows during the 1930’s and 1940’s. The official MAFCS archive collection  is located in the University of Maryland library. The collection consists of histories, reports, correspondence, newsletters, manuals, radio scripts, and minutes relating to such subjects as pure food and drug legislation and the Mary Faulkner Scholarship. There are several unprocessed addenda to the original accession. The entire collection is available at Hornbake Library.
