AAFCS Annual Conference in Atlanta by Marcia Fouraker

NAFCS President, Camelle Kinney, and Marcia Fouraker attended the 109th Annual Conference & Expo in Atlanta, Georgia, June 24-27, 2018.  The theme was “Cultivating Social and Emotional Competence for Healthy Relationships”. There were multiple opportunities to learn about research, best practices, and resources that support FCS professionals in their careers and personal lives.  There were also lots of networking opportunities to connect or re-connect with people from around the country.

Camelle was selected this spring as one of two AAFCS 2018 National Teacher of the Year Merit Finalists.  She was invited to present during the curriculum showcase in Atlanta and recognized at a special luncheon.  This is a huge honor and Camelle is very deserving of it.  Nebraska is thrilled to have her represent us so well.  Congratulations, Camelle!  Marcia participated in a roundtable session where she shared about her after-school program.

Work began in Atlanta on two resolutions, which are now posted on the AAFCS website.  One states our organization’s support for humane policies and treatment of families separated at the US border.  The other seeks to provide disaster assistance to FCS programs in Puerto Rico.  Check out how we can all get involved in that effort.

The next AAFCS Annual Conference & Expo will be June 23-26, 2019 in St. Louis, Missouri.  Since this is a drivable distance, hopefully more NAFCS members can attend.  Wouldn’t it be fun to carpool or caravan?!
