Remote Proctor FAQ

Remote Proctoring FAQ:  Online-RECORDED

How does the approved test site purchase assessments for remote-proctored test administration?

The Pre-PAC online order center is available to purchase assessments. When ordering, the approved test site will identify the method of test administration (test-site or remote-proctor).  The remote proctor administration option does require an additional fee to pay for the external proctor service.

If you are a testing site that needs to transition previously purchased assessments (from test site administration to remote-proctor administration), please contact AAFCS at pre-pac@aafcs.org or 703-636-7641.

How does the approved test site register candidates for a remote-proctored test administration?

To register test candidates for remote-proctored administration, the approved test site should complete the assessment registration template (revised May 2020).  In the template, please note the method of test administration as "remote" in the appropriate column.  Then, follow the steps to upload the registration template using the same process/tool in the Pre-PAC Management System.   Click here for details on assessment registration.   Once the test candidate is registered for remote-proctored administration, the approved test site administrator and coordinator will receive the registration verification email with next steps to move forward with assessment scheduling and administration.

If you are a testing site that needs to transition previously registered candidates (from test site administration to remote-proctor administration, please complete and submit a new registration template through the regular registration process.

What instructions are available for test candidates?  What resources should the approved test site provide for test candidates?

AAFCS has developed a "Quick Start Guide to Remote Proctor Test Administration."  Approved test sites should note the method of test administration (test site or remote) on the candidate registration template.  Approved test sites will need to provided candidates registered for remote-proctored assessment administration with the following:

  • Quick Start Guide
  • Photo ID or documentation (with photo and name matching student registration) - Sample ID documentation
  • Link to the AAFCS Pre-PAC Assessment System
  • Credentials to Log Into the Assessment System (Test Candidate Username and Password)

Are the remote-proctored assessments timed?

Yes.  There is a 2 hour time limitation on the exam. The exam time will not begin until after the test candidate has completed the pre-check process and the exam starts.  The exam must be completed in one sitting once the assessment has launched.

What are the technical requirements for the test candidate's device?

Windows macOS
Browser Chrome with Proctorio extension Chrome with Proctorio extension
Operating System Windows 7 + macOS 10.11+
Processor Intel Pentium or better Intel
Free disk space 250 MB 250 MB
Free RAM 2 GB 2 GB
Upload speed 0.092 Mpbs - 0.244 Mbps
Microphone Any microphone, either internal or external
Webcam 320 x 240 VGA resolution (minimum) internal or external

Before the remote-proctor system launches, system diagnostics are performed on the test candidate's device to ensure compatibility and ensure the device settings and hardware are properly enabled.

Will the test candidate need a photo ID to confirm identification before an exam?

Test candidates will be prompted to hold their photo ID (school-issued or state-issued photo ID) to the webcam prior to beginning the exam.  Once the system captures the photo of the ID, the candidate will be allowed to start the exam.  The system will flag results in which the scanned ID may be suspicious.

The name on the ID must match the registration name (first and last name) that was submitted by the testing site.  The photo ID may be provided to the test candidate by the approved test site.  It is the responsibility of the approved test site to ensure that each student has an appropriate photo ID document.

What browser is supported with the remote-proctor system?

Test candidates MUST use Google's Chrome browser with the Proctorio Chrome extension installed.  If the extension is not installed, test candidates will be redirected to add the Proctorio extension.  Installation typically takes about a minute or less.

The Chrome extension can be installed in advance.

The Proctorio Chrome extension provides lock-down functionality, including the ability to force full-screen delivery, prevent printing, disable the clipboard, disable right-click, prevent re-entry, disable new tabs, require that any other open tabs be closed, auto-clear browser cache (removing any traces of the assessment from candidate device after completion) after a session, and require single screen (preventing use of multiple monitors during an exam).
