Using and Evaluating (FREE) Health Websites

Webinar Description:
With the amount of health information available online, it can be difficult to know where to turn for trustworthy information. This session will focus on the identification and use of reliable consumer health resources. The presenters will highlight the importance of using reliable, evidence-based resources and teach participants how to differentiate between trusted sources of health information and those that are not trustworthy. The presenters will also demonstrate the National Library of Medicine’s consumer health databases and discuss the services available from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine. These services include free health information trainings, print materials, and funding opportunities. 

After the session, attendees will be able to:
  1. Understand the importance of evaluating consumer heath websites for reliability
  2. Explain how to evaluate a website for reliability
  3. Describe 1-2 databases from the National Library of Medicine that can be used to locate reliable consumer health information
  4. Describe the services available from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine and how consumer health professionals can benefit from these services
All of the resources and services introduced in this session are trustworthy and free for anyone to use. This session is applicable to a broad audience as the tips and resources presented are useful in numerous settings, including libraries, schools, extension workshops, and clinical settings. The session will include demonstrations to ensure that participants feel comfortable immediately putting these resources to use upon completion of the session.
