ArAFCS Awards & Scholarships

The Arkansas Association of Family and Consumer Sciences offers scholarships for its members pursuing higher education in two categories. The application for the AAFCS Doctoral and Masters Scholarship Programs can be accessed below. Also, please view the additional information provided below on each scholarship. All scholarship applicants are encouraged to attend the Annual Arkansas Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Meeting, where the recipients will be announced.

All members meeting the eligibility criteria should apply by submitting a complete application packet to the Scholarship Committee Chair no later than Monday, March 29th by 11:59 p.m.

Criteria for Selecting Doctoral Scholarship Recipient:

  • Must be a legal resident of Arkansas.
  • Must be enrolled in Family and Consumer Science or related graduate program.
  • Must have been admitted to a graduate program and must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA in graduate school.
  • Must have demonstrated qualities of leadership in AAFCS.
  • Must be a current member of AAFCS.
  • Must have been a member of the American and Arkansas Associations of Family and Consumer Sciences for at least two of the last three years.
  • Must submit scholarship application fully completed with official transcript(s) (not a photocopy) of all college work.

 Procedures for Scholarship Selection:

  • A scholarship committee, chaired by the AAFCS Scholarship Chairman, will review applications and recommend the recipient to the AAFCS Board.
  • The AAFCS Scholarship Chairperson will officially notify the scholarship recipient and also the other applicants after the formal announcement during the Arkansas Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Annual Meeting.

Awarding the Scholarship:

  • All applicants are encouraged to attend the Annual Arkansas Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Meeting.
  • The Scholarship recipient will be announced during the Arkansas Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Annual Meeting.

 Payment of Scholarship:

  • Upon verification of the recipient’s enrollment (letter from the registrar or copy of proof of payment of college expenses), the total scholarship will be paid to the individual.
  • The scholarship must be used within one year of the award announcement.

Criteria for Selecting Masters Scholarship Recipient:

  • Must be a legal resident of Arkansas.
  • Must be a Family and Consumer Sciences major at an Arkansas university.
  • Must have been admitted to a graduate program, have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and maintain a 3.0 GPA on a scale of 4.0 in graduate school.
  • Must have demonstrated qualities of leadership in AAFCS.
  • Must be a current member of AAFCS.
  • Must have been a member of the American and Arkansas Associations of Family and Consumer Sciences for at least two of the last three years.
  • Must submit scholarship application fully completed with official transcript(s) (not a photocopy) of all college work.

AWARD OPPORTUNITIES

It is time to nominate outstanding Arkansas Affiliate AAFCS members for the following awards!  
 
Consider nominating yourself or a deserving colleague for excellence in the FCS profession!  One individual in each category will receive a plaque and the recipients will also be recognized at the 2021 Arkansas Affiliate AAFCS state conference.
