Colorado/Wyoming Affiliate Annual Conferences

Our CAFCS/WAFCS Fall Conference was held at Windsor High School.

Ginny Vincente, WAFCS started off the conference with her session, titled, "FCS- A Preventive Force."

After lunch we took a tour of the CTE wing at Windsor High School.

Time at lunch allowed for some networking.

Manuela Ortiz, from the Wyoming Housing Authority, shared the resources and services they provide.

Junior Achievement USA is dedicated to giving young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their future, and make smart academic and economic choices. Christy Biedron, Senior Director of Education, shared with us the different programs being carried out in Colorado.

Stephanie Hartman, Ph.D., and Social Studies Content Specialist from the Colorado Department of Education, explained the new Financial Literacy House Bill that requires students to complete a Financial Literacy course before they graduate.  She shared areas of community, instructional and student resources.

FCS professionals including Extension agents, students and teachers from both Colorado and Wyoming enjoyed getting to know each other and have discussions centered around Financial Literacy.

Tour of the Plant Growth Facility on the University of Wyoming campus.  Participants learned about controlled environment agriculture (CEA), and the concept of producing food indoors. Lead by Plant Director, Carmela Rosaria Guadagno, she explained the facilities which ranged from standard greenhouses to hydroponic vertical farming complexes. 

Conference attendees were given a tour of the FCS Department including the classrooms, textile and culinary labs, and seeing faculty and student work displayed in hallways and classrooms.
