Help Shape the Future of Family and Consumer Sciences: Become a Journal Reviewer

By AAFCS Team posted an hour ago

Behind every high-quality scholarly article is a dedicated peer reviewer who helps ensure research is accurate, relevant, and impactful. The Journal of Family & Consumer Sciences (JFCS) and the Family & Consumer Sciences Research Journal (FCSRJ) are seeking qualified reviewers to join this important effort and help advance the Family and Consumer Sciences profession.

Serving as a peer reviewer is more than a professional service—it is an opportunity for your own growth. Reviewers gain early access to emerging research, explore innovative methodologies, and contribute to strengthening the quality of scholarship that informs teaching, research, Extension, and professional practice.

Scott Hall, JFCS Editor, shared:

"I can just say that I believe as a peer reviewer that my writing and research has improved, and that it has helped me by introducing me to some new ideas, research methods, and cutting edge research."

Reviewing manuscripts also provides an opportunity to expand your professional expertise, stay current on trends across Family and Consumer Sciences, strengthen your scholarly writing skills, and give back to the profession by mentoring authors through constructive feedback. In addition, AAFCS Certified Professionals can earn Professional Development Units (PDUs) for completed manuscript reviews.

We welcome reviewers representing all Family and Consumer Sciences content areas. In general, reviewers hold a doctoral degree and have experience with research and scholarly publishing. However, we also recognize that specialized professional expertise is invaluable. For example, practitioners with extensive Extension or other content-specific experience may be excellent reviewers even if their career path differs from traditional academia. We also encourage advanced Ph.D. students nearing completion of their programs who have research and publishing experience to apply.

If you are interested in serving as a reviewer, please send your vita along with a brief email expressing your interest to AAFCS.

Your expertise can help strengthen the profession while enhancing your own scholarship. Join our community of reviewers and play a vital role in advancing research, supporting authors, and shaping the future of Family and Consumer Sciences.
