Alexandria, Va. – AAFCS presented its 2020 Distinguished Service Award Honorees during the AAFCS Virtual Conference in an online recognition event, Salute to the Stars - Toast of Blue!, held on June 25th in front of AAFCS staff and conference member and non-member participants. As the current pandemic impacts the health and safety among us, the Annual Conference was transformed from an in-person conference into a 2-day conference via Zoom, which allowed many new attendees from all over the world to register and participate.
The Distinguished Service Award (DSA) was established by the American Home Economics Association (AHEA) Foundation in 1979 as a living tribute to members of AHEA (now AAFCS) to recognize superior achievements in family and consumer sciences, outstanding contributions to the family and consumer sciences profession, and sustained association leadership at both state and national levels.
In July, an individual AAFCS reception for each honoree was held via Zoom for their family, friends, colleagues, and mentors to celebrate their DSA achievement. Donors who contributed to the DSA Honorary Fund were recognized during the Annual Honor Roll of Donors and as part of a special video montage played during the reception. The Honorees’ unique receptions were an opportunity for AAFCS, fellow and former colleagues as well as family members to pay tribute to the honoree.
