First Year Student Scholarship

The New York State Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (NYSAFCS) will award one $700 scholarship and a complimentary one-year Association Membership ($50 value) to a graduating high school senior who will be entering their first year at an academically approved college/university in New York State. Due By May 1st.

Application includes a recommendation letter from a teacher, FCCLA adviser, or other professional who can speak of your interests, strengths, and commitment to the Family and Consumer Sciences field.



Grants


Program Grants for Organized Districts for Professional Development Activities
Purpose:
$8/district member at the time of application is to be used in the district for professional
development programs. This grant is available each fiscal year of NYSAFCS budget.

Who may apply:

Any officer from an organized district. (districts are defined on www.aafcs.org/nysafcs)

Due Date:

Between August 1st and April 30th each year.

Grants for Group Programs to Reach Members-at-Large
Purpose:
Members-at-large can plan professional development activities for geographic areas that
are not currently served by an active district. Financial support for the event will be
awarded up to 25% of the total cost per NYSAFCS members not to exceed $10 per
participant.

Who may apply:
Any NYSAFCS member or group of members can plan and conduct an event for
professional development in geographic areas not served by an active district.

Due Date:
Submit before May 31st.

Grants for Individual Members At Large to Attend State or National Professional Development Conferences
Purpose:
This grant supports members at large to attend one state or national professional
development event of the association annually. Funding for this support comes from
reserve funds that are being held from districts that have dissolved. Up to $30 is
available for one state event or one national event.

Who may apply:
Any NYSAFCS member who lives in an area not covered by an active district.

Due Date:

Submit within 30 days of attending the event.

Special Program Grants
Purpose:
This grant is designed to enable and encourage the continuation and development of
further collaborative educational and environmental efforts to go along with AAFCS’s
institute “Taking It to the Streets.” A maximum of $1,500 can be awarded.

Who may apply:
Any NYSAFCS member with at least 2 years of NYSAFCS membership.

Due Date:

Anytime
