Community of History & Archives

Our Purpose

The History & Archives Community supports the collection, preservation, and interpretation of materials that reflect the development of Family and Consumer Sciences and AAFCS. By safeguarding archival documents, photographs, publications, and other historical resources, we help ensure that future generations of educators, students, and professionals can learn from and build upon our shared history.

History & Archives Community

The AAFCS History & Archives Community is dedicated to preserving the rich legacy, impact, and evolution of the Family and Consumer Sciences profession. As the steward of AAFCS’s historical record, this community brings together members who share a passion for documenting the stories, milestones, and innovations that have shaped the field from its earliest beginnings to the present day.

What We Do

  • Preserve AAFCS History: Maintain records and artifacts that highlight the profession’s growth, leadership, and contributions across decades.

  • Share Historical Insights: Provide educational resources, programs, and presentations that connect members with the stories of FCS pioneers, key achievements, and transformative initiatives.

  • Support Research: Assist members, scholars, and students in accessing archival materials for scholarly work, historical projects, and professional development.

  • Celebrate Legacy: Promote awareness of the profession’s heritage during AAFCS events, anniversaries, and community activities.

Why It Matters

Understanding our past strengthens our vision for the future. The History & Archives Community ensures that the foundations of the field—and the voices that built it—remain accessible, appreciated, and preserved. By connecting our history to contemporary practice, we help inspire future leaders and reinforce the value of Family and Consumer Sciences in today’s world.
